Define your editing task
This session looks at the different types of editing — from structural editing through to copy editing and proofreading.
A structural edit
With a structural edit, sometimes known as rewriting, you need to improve a document's overall structure.
Copy editing
A copy edit is gentler than a structural edit. You can often improve a document by making it punchier with shorter, more direct sentences. You also need to watch out for inconsistencies, errors and repetitions.
Proofreading
In some ways, proofreading is the hardest task if you've also written or edited the document. In this session, you look at how to proofread a document several times, looking for different things each time.
